iNspIRation: WorkOut *Bling*

Good Morning Lu-lies,

The temperature here has been dropping daily *yikes*.

Being a  ‘hot weather person’, I thought that having to bring my running game inside would cause me to lose interest, but, so far it has not happened !!!!

I am certain that my perception of fall/winter running is probably not as bad as I think  the monsters in my mind have me tripping over pebbles, running too far and not having enough energy to run back, running out of water, having to stop to use the restroom – and not having one readily available….

But until I conquer the crazies, I’m inside.

In my efforts to be proactive about this whole staying focused thing, I’ve decided to go trolling for some new fitness gear.  Hey You, no judgment 🙂 … a girl’s gotta have a reason to shop, right?

This is what I found    *some of it is sparkly*

This little gem is probably not practical, but I do luv the *bling*, *bling*.  This is some kinda of special if you luv to sparkle while you sweat.  Not to mention being a sucker for glitz!

Found this really cool hand stamped necklace.  This piece is great as a gift for a personal trainer or as an inspiration for the newbie – like me!

Running the 5K inspired me to work toward running a half marathon next year…. YES!!

The plan is to run, at least one, half marathon.  *throwing confetti in the air for inspiration* .  Perhaps this little baby will keep me inspired and less focused on the craziness of this new found goal.

I figure that with all of this training, I’m going to need something to rock all of those medals.  What do you think?

I reeeallly ❤ the crown on this one… a lot

Well Luv-lies,  this shopping spree could go on forever, so I think I’ll stop with these rocking pieces.

So, what inspires you?

One Down! … Many More to Go!!!

Helloooo Luv-ies,

Great News this morning!
Yesterday I Finished My First Official 5K Race!!!

I started training a couple of months ago with the intent on running the race earlier than now, but that didn’t work out.  I joined a running team from the fitness center where I work out, and with great hope – much trepidation – started the training program.  The first training day was followed by many more, with the team convening once a week, to review and implement the weekly workouts that we each received via email.

After three weeks, I had to drop out of the team practices, but I continued with the e-mailed training program on my own.  I was determined to successfully run a 5K before the weather turned cold.  Well, Labor Day came and went, and I did not run the race, with my team mates, but I continued to train for a race that would come to mean much more.

As the weeks passed with repeated speed work and strength training workouts, I selected a race that had great significance to me.  I decided on a local race called ‘Hero Palooza’ – A Bike Tour, 5K Run/Walk & Family Festival Crab Feast.  The mission/vision of the organization is to restore hope to Leukemia patients and their families by increasing bone marrow registrants, providing nutritious meals, and supporting blood cancer research.

And so, I registered….

20131105-190219.jpg

After a good night’s sleep, I arose the morning of the race early. Registration was scheduled to start at 8:30am and I did not want to be late… it’s my first race, after all!

Because my stomach tends to be temperamental, I decided that I would have a glass of orange juice and a bottle of water. I’d see how I felt once I got there….
20131105-184454.jpg

One last once over and prayer for a successful (and uneventful) run, I was on my way…
20131105-184655.jpg

As a very young girl, I lost my younger Brother, Kenneth ‘Kenny’ to Leukemia.  This race is my way of honoring him and celebrating his heroic fight to beat this disease.

Once I arrived, I snapped a picture of the welcome sign and sent one – of many – Tweets dedicating this race to my HeroPalooza Brother and celebrating my participation

20131105-184815.jpg

I was very early arriving but it didn’t seem matter to these ladies. It was so refreshing to be greeted by these smiling faces. They were extremely helpful during the registration process. Being a newbie, I had loads of questions. None of which seemed to be too silly for them. Thank You Ladies … you only get to be a newbie once!

20131105-185104.jpg

Even though my stomach was not completely settled (it had to be nerves), I grabbed a couple bottles of water and some fruit.  My race, the 5K, was not scheduled to start for another hour and a half, so I thought I’d put something on this nervous stomach

20131105-185548.jpg

Finally it was time to get warmed up. That meant that in twenty minutes, I would be running my first official 5K race! !Woo Hoo!

The warm up was lead by one of the instructors from the fitness center that I belong.  The energy was electric and the enthusiasm contagious.
20131105-185649.jpg

One last pose before the start of the race. Thank You to the willing stranger that I snagged to take this pic.

Note to self – take someone with you so that they can be the unofficial photographer of all of my madness

The next time I see this display, it will have the ‘Finish’ banner in place
20131105-185750.jpg

FINISHED!!!

YEEEEAH ME!!!
The run was great! The road was mostly flat. That was a good thing…

the temperature was close to eighty degrees by the time the race started. That made the road hot and the air hotter… not used to that!

Another note to self – train in all types of weather and humidity levels.
20131105-185948.jpg

I’m a 5K WINNER!!!

Thirty One minutes Later….

I felt elated! I’ve definitely caught the bug!

There will be many more races to come!
20131105-190105.jpg

Stay tuned for more races!

{Reblog} :: Treadmill interval workout

Hey Luv-lies,

The weather is slowly drawing to a nice soothing warmth during the day. And a friendly coolness at night.
When the sun no longer lingers in the sky, I happily turn off the air conditioner and patiently await
the night breeze that is familiarly characteristic of the waning of Summer and the dawning of Fall.
So,
with the new weather pattern, comes a re-newed way of thinking about my, now, outdoor workouts. I am reblogging this infographic (I kinda like the way that infographics sum things up… and so pretty too) that I’m going to give it a whirl (once I absolutely, positively have to bring my running inside).

Put Your Feet Up.... It's Saturday !!!!

Put Your Feet Up…. It’s Saturday !!!!

Good Morning Luv-lies,

Happy Saturday…. hope that your week has been a productive and rewarding one.

I tell you, for me, this week has flewn by – like a flock of birds heading south for the winter!   It’s been a week of mostly goods and ……. not so goods  okay, so when it wasn’t good, it was reeeealllly bad!

Well, let’s get to it…..

The Week’s ‘Good’ Stuff…  {starting with the most important first :-)} :

My Little Ones.... Luv Them Babies

My Little Ones…. Luv Them Babies

Spent almost two hours video chatting with my three Grands…. affectionately referred to as ‘My Little Ones’.  I LUV them babies!!!

My six year old granddaughter (that’s her with the awesome make-up on the left) read me a story from one of her favorite books.  That was amazing!  While she was reading, I had a ‘light bulb moment’.  She was really reading! Not from rote, but, really reading with passion and emphasis.  WOW!!  She is growing up so fast….

Her oldest brother, my four year old grandson (he’s the one with the amazingly infectious smile on the far right side of the picture), also growing far too fast, sang me his rendition of  the ‘ABC’s’.  It took some coaxing – I had to sing it first… incorrectly.  He was in and out of a few small tantrums during the chat.  My silly rendition of the ‘ABC’s’ helped him out of it…  Besides, I he’s so proud of himself when he done.  And, of course, I am major scale proud of him!  I have a feeling that reading is on the very near horizon…. Yey!!!!!!

Then there is my youngest of the bunch (he’s the cutey in the middle).  He’s two years old but I swear that he’s been here before.  If he were just a little taller, one would think that he is the oldest.  He takes over! And, I have a sneaky suspicion that because he’s the youngest, his brother & sister let him take over –  but not for too much longer!  He likes to be the ‘holder of the phone’.  Because he talks in ‘two year old speak’ most of the sounds that I hear while he’s holding the phone is heavy breathing.  He’s soooo damned cute!

During most of this, my daughter was preparing dinner.  So I got to be the ‘virtual’ babysitter (hey! how did that happen? :-0).  But most importantly, I had a chance to visit with my family, who I miss soooo much!

More Goods!!!

My Weight Watchers Dashboard

 Seven months of Weight Watchers and commitment to moving my arse has rewarded me in several ways.

I’m down 0.4lbs {that’s 15lbs closer to goal}

Several garments that have been hanging in my closet – still with price tags and size tags (of a smaller size than I was seven months ago) – now fit –  with plenty of extra room – Whoa Hoo!!!

And most, inspirational and humbling….  at work, a few of the Ladies have been very complimentary (and forthcoming) with compliments on the amount of weight that I have lost and how ‘good you look, girl’.  Their compliments have been, among other things, encouraging and flattering.  They have been so inspired, that, we have decided to form a support group where we focus on healthy weight loss and healthy lifestyle.  They have appointed me as the mediator of the group.  Again, I am truly humbled and flattered.  There will be loads of posts about this group…. can’t wait to get started!

More Good Stuff !!!

I ran 36 miles this week!!!

I ran 36 miles this week!!!

This week, I’ve run a total of 36 miles!!! YEY ME !!!!!!!!!

                                           ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ohhhhh   Soooooo   Baddddd   Stufffffff !!!!
Im' Out of Control!!!
Im’ Out of Control!!!
I over ate !!!!!!  Yes! that was reallllly bad…. but not until Thursday.  And only on  Thursday !  I usually don’t touch my 49 Weekly Points that the WW program allows, but, not only did I eat my allotted points, I ate ALL of the 49 Weekly Points – In One Night!!! …..  whhhhhaaaaat!?  …… riiiiiiiight!
I did recover on Friday.
And the plan today is to STAY ON PROGRAM!!!
……… That’s my week, Luv-lies,
How was your week?
One Mile Timed Trial…. {a.k.a.} ‘Just hobble me now!’
one mile timed run
Good Morning Luv-lies,
I wanted to share this with you guys on last Saturday
but
simply forgot….
Very early Saturday morning, (did I say very early?),  I started my first practice module for  my second C25K.    I ran my first 5k about six years ago on a whim.  I knew then, like I know now, that shear ignorance and adrenaline contributed to a successful finish (under 30 minutes).  I ‘practiced’ for this run for all of a week *goofy face*
This time, I’ve chosen to be smarter….
So, after one hour of a combination of nonstop warm up, strength exercises and sprints, the group (I think that I’ve mentioned ‘The Sisters’ before),  we gals were charged with
one last task…
the one timed trial….
This is what I Tweeted and Facebooked {is there such a verb} after all of the torture!
Tell Me, again, Why I’m Running this 5K
Hello Luv-lies,
So I started this whole C25K (couch to 5K)
journey a couple of weeks ago.   The workouts are coming
along.
and although I have my days
when
it takes seems like it takes everything to get through the workout,
I continue to look forward to each practice session.
I do have my moments that I began to ask myself, ‘ self, why?’.  Of course the
obvious answers
come immediately to mind.  But one day while trolling one of  my favorite graphic websites – after plugging in this question –
I found this neat (and useful) infographic  …..
What are your thoughts ?…..
C5K: WORK OUT DAY#1
20130713_074641Hey Luv-lies,
Today is the second conditioning day in preparation for my Labor Day-ish 5K race.
Day one was this past Saturday, where I met with the team of eight women (who are also training for the same goal… who will , from this point on, be loving referred to as ‘The Sisters’ in crime :-). Our morning began at 7:30am at the fitness center ( I; however, did not get the text and went trapsing over to the track at 7:30.
Missed completing the necessary “I won’t hold the fitness center liable if I’m a complete klutz and hurt something while training…. and any pictures taken of me and used for marketing and advertising purposes will not result in a summons for financial compensation” paperwork that the others filled out back at the fitness center. I didn’t get out of it completely…had to fill it out once they arrived at the track ;-).
We started with some basic techniques in how to use the foot while running; in order to avoid injury. Geesh, I thought that running was just walking, just at a faster pace. You mean there’s a ‘way to put your foot down’? I immediately began to think ‘…I’m in for a long eight weeks….’
The ‘foot thing’ was then followed by the 30 minutes of lunges, abdomin work (several sets of planks, bicycles, and hovers) and multiple variation of squats….
It was at this point that the silence and reserve that was first shown by ‘The Sisters’ transformed into all out moans of agony and resistence. And this is just Week One, Day One!!!!!
I’m certain that they had swimming around in their heads was the same question that I had… “when does the running begin?” and “is it going to be this bad, too”?
Question answered soon enough….
Next up… my First Timed Mile… running! In an attempt to not let the fact that I had not run in over three years get into my head, I convinced myself that it couldn’t be ‘all that bad…. right’? With the conviction and determination of a child taking their first steps, I gulped a mouthful of ice water, activated my RunKeeper App, slapped in my earbuds (maybe the sound of music will ease the pain….gulp) and at the command of the Trainer, took off on my run.
Ten minutes and forty-five seconds later, I was cruising… YES! Cruising past the one mile marker with greater ease (and confidence) than I initially gave myself. After another lap around the track – the ‘cool-down’ lap, I waited at the side lines for the rest of ‘The Sisters’ to cruise through to the finish.
After another round of leg and abdominal work, lasting this time for only fifteen minutes, I was proudly on my way to the nearest coffee shop….
I had done it! I completed Day One of Week One of this C5K training!! Not bad for a fabulously fifty-ish woman living a fit, healthy lifestyle while giving this aging thing a run for its money!!!!!
What have you proudly accomplished over the last few days?
