 to Be The Best You!!

happy-new-you

I’ve gifted this year to making Me the priority.  I’m giving myself permission (without guilt) to pay more attention to me.  Taking time out from all of the ‘noise’ of day-to-day living to inject it with something(s) that are important to me.

This may sound ….

 A little self-centered.

A little self-absorbed.

A little selfish.

I say ‘Maybe….Not‘.   *The benefits of making myself a priority is fodder for another post.  So I’ll save that for later {stay tuned}.

Instead,  I will tell you that this Me Focused Year will include:

Happy National Coffee Day!!!

It’s here Again!!

National Coffee Day!!!

coffee fairy

So what is all this coffee hoopla about?  Every year, on September 29th, National Coffee Day celebrates the coffee bean and the promotion of fair trade of coffee.   All in an effort to raise awareness about coffee growers.

For me, one of the fun things about this caffeine fueled day is that at my local coffee shop, I can get all of the Free Coffee that I can carry!

I posted on my FB PAGE where you can score on getting your free ‘cup of jo

*a click on the picture will take you right to the link to the article 😉

The most expensive coffee (in the world), Kopi Luwak, is excreted by a Sumatran species of wild cats.  How expensive is this cup o’ jo?

$600 a pound of coffee.   YEP!

~2~

Coffee is a fruit. Coffee beans are actually the pits of berries that grow on bushes .

Second only to oil, Coffee is most sold commodity around the world.

~4~

How do you like your coffee bean- Arabica or Robusta?  These are the only two kinds of coffee beans.  Thank goodness for the bottomless variety of coffee-based drinks.  The difference in the bean?  Robusta is more bitter and packs twice as much caffeine.

65% of the worlds coffee is consumed by three countries: Americans, Frenchmen and Germans

Hello.IAmPhat

This Is Not Health…But I Look Good!

Listen up, Ladies. This is an interestingly different perspective about what ‘healthy’ and ‘fit’ looks like to the industry.

IMG_1390

I decided to enter a bikini competition. With all these “fitspo” images and fitness motivation depicting bikini competitor bodies (that we all musthave) I decided to challenge myself to see what indeed it does take to have that body. I’m learning that this body is very much not about health and more about aesthetics.

In my previous post I had written about the  demise of health in the fitness industry but today I must stand corrected. You see the fitness industry, at least in the case of women, wasn’t built around principles of health and wellness. It was built around aesthetics. When Fitness Centers first opened to women in the 1960s and 1970s their focus was purely on weight loss and spot reduction. They often did not have proper exercise equipment but rather pseudoscience based technology such as vibrating belts to jiggle the fat away. They had no resistance…

Girl on Fire!

Dear Mom, Jean Nidetch died.

Had to re-blog this post.
It’s poignant. Touching. Moving. .

Losing weight...maintaining weight....life in general!

I want to call my mom. Right now. God, I miss her.   I miss her daily, but some days my kids say or do something, I see something, I cook something, I think of something…. and I just want to talk to her. Well, that’s not exactly it. I want her to talk back.

Jean Nidetch died today. She was the founder of Weight Watchers.   In a time where many moms didn’t work, here was a woman who needed help, tried every diet in the book and hid Mallomars in her laundry. She saw a need to share. She saw a need that others had to share. And from this living room of sharing, a company was built and millions of people all over the world were able to change their life for the better.

I grew up with her in my house. Not really IN my house, but my…

Fresh Squeezed

Good Morning Luv-lies

Just a short post this morning.

Have some special things in store for the day- It’s that type of day 🙂

Love it when I get my workout in early.

  Done.

✔ Check.

Past tense.

The weather is great – it’s that kind of day!

Now, I’m having a breakfast dilemma….

Veggies sandwich OR Fresh veggie juice.

Juicy juice

Hmmmmm

Squeeze me

Stopped by one of my fav home shopping stores and picked up one of these cuties

Hand juicer

Can’t wait to use it!

So I guess that answers the question 🙂

Juice it is.

Fruits and veggies

So Luv-lies,

While I’m squeezing all of the  yumliciousness from this fruit, I’ve  Have a few fun facts to share with you about the benefits of this whole juicing thing.

* Okay, let’s start with the obvious.  Juicing fresh veggies and/or fruits gives you a reeeally tasty and NATURAL drink that is especially welcoming after a good workout.  No preservatives.  No sugar. For me, a no brainer.

* I’m thinking that with all the natural-ness going on, I’ve got to be getting a ton of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and the likes.  You know.  All of that stuff that’s good for us that we didn’t want to think too hard about!  Now if you’re like me, then you scoop up all of the pull left behind. Because pulp equals fiber and (among other things) fiber equals a filing of fullness.  … Mindless eating be gone!

* I can have a good bit of my daily allowance  of fruits and veggies all at once. Yep. How cool is that?  One cup. No lugging tons of fruit around in my, already over packed lunch bag.  No more ‘used to be yellow’ brown bananas or bruised apples.  All in my ‘special’ cup. Which brings me to

* Beautiful cups. Loads of them!. All shapes and sizes. Just to show off my concoctions! I mostly like decorated transparent glass.  Love  the color of the juice peeking through.  Chillin’ on the balcony? Now that, that requires a mug.  More durable and sturdy.  Can’t see the fruity colors (unless I’m standing over it) so much but it’s sooooooo cute to look at

I (heart) cups Continue reading

Friday Food Porn … Your Beer has A Loft

Heyyyyy!!!!  It’s Friiiiiiiday!!!!!  Luv-lies,

Got through yet another Rain/Sleet/Snow storm.     How’d you do?

The day before the storm, I joined my neighbors and stocked up on the non-necessities.  The necessities?  Got those before the last storm.  So that just leaves stopping to get, what I call, ‘the goodie’.

I bought some popcorn, quac dip, chips and a few other ‘comfort bites’.  Of the low/no fat kind.  Of course.  Picked up, what turned out to be, too many over-sized bottles of O.J. and half-half iced tea.

It took me some time to rearrange the stuff in the fridge – so that the oversized bottles would fit.  Can you say … ‘work out’!

Now.

If I had one of these little babies,  I might not have bruised all of my delicious fruit.

bottleLoft-1-570x400

The peeps over at  Strong Like Bull Magnets call this the ‘bottleloft’.

Taking advantage of the under used ‘head room’ in the fridge, frees up shelve space for those left-overs.

And.

You can hang more than beer….

bottleLoft-2-570x400 or your favorite iced coffee

bottleLoft-3

If it has a metal lid, you can hang it.

How’s all this magic work?

There’s a super-duper-extra-magnificent-ginormous magnet that makes it all work!

Happy 105th Birthday Momofuku Andos

Good Morning Luv-Lies,

Quick post this early morning.

Google’s done a great 105th tribute to the founder of Ramen Noodles, Momofuku  Andos.

If you, like me, spent your college years:

“Peel[ing] off the lid.

Pour[ing] boiling water into the cup.

Let[ting  it] sit for three minutes.

Stir[ring] well and serve.”

Get yourself right over to Google and help yourself to this celebration!
