8 Tips for Healthy Eating

Infographic: 8 tips for healthy eating

Hello Luv-lies,

Ran across this infographic  while trolling the ‘net.  Trying to make some sense of my eating plan (… even though I make certain that I keep up with my ‘healthy checks’ on WW Tracker, I periodically need other sources to make certain that I’m getting all of the nutrition that I need (… this growing girl needs all the info she can get to help with to get that girlish figure  *wink wink*).

I found this wealth of information all bundled in one nice little infographic.  *Not real sure why the ‘Yeast Infection Organization is sponsoring this…. but….*

Although I like the information shared, there are few things that would change/amend if I designed this.

Like the following:

I prefer brown rice and bread over the white

don’t particularly like referring to Carbohydrates as starches (the word ‘starch’ just has a bad wrap)

Those two are it…. What do you think?

My Inbox looks Different

Gmail's new mail format Have you missed some of your usual mail?

If you’re a Gmail user, you may have noticed that your emails may have been pushed out of your primary inbox and into the third tab!

Google has recently made a change to your Gmail inbox

that sorts messages into tabs (when using the desktop version): Primary, Social, Promotions, Updates and Forums.

Based on Google’s criteria, this means any emails sent to you will be automatically sorted in categories ……..  Unless you make some changes Did I miss the memo on this one? I’m slowly learning my way around this new format… what about you….

I’d Luv to know your thoughts?

This is Starting to Feel like My #1

Good early Morning, Luv-lies

Running-Water-Pencil

Looking forward to my Thursday run … I’ve finally settled into what I call  ‘The Run’

For me, ‘The Run’ is that place in my head where I am relaxed in my run.

A place where I focus on how my

body ‘feels’ during the run.

Usually  during my run, my focus has been on finishing the run.

My thoughts often were, “when is this going to be over?”, “one more mile…. just one more mile…”

Now,

I’ve settled into the music that I use to inspire my run.

I smile with every step that pounds the pavement.

I feel the strength developing in my whole body but particularly in my legs

I’m finally embracing this whole running thing and settling in to mindfulness about it….

it’s fast becoming one of my ‘LUV IT’ workouts!!!

Fat’s Got A Bad Rap … {a.k.a.} Carbs [are] Killing You!

Carbs are killing you

{infographic via:: here}

Hello Luv-lie,

Top of the morning to ya!

Hope that your weekend was quietly

uneventful

but productive.

My week is starting off with less of me –

had a successful

weigh-in yesterday =)   *Yey Me!*  …. Finally! the plateau has been broken!

While trying to  wrap my head around the

seemingly never ending plateau

that has plagued me this summer, I’ve been looking into how I

could help the

process along!  {how grandiose of me  😉

I’m a true believer that successfully living a healthy lifestyle

means

that I can consume  moderate amounts of carbohydrates, proteins, fats and fiber – with an occasional

dose of sugar.  All in moderation.

During my quest, I stumbled upon the

above infographic.  And, according to this little interesting ditty, it not the fat

content of our diet

that is the culprit for our ever-expanding girth!  But that the culprit

is,  *drum roll, please*  the consumption of a carbohydrate-rich diet.

My thoughts on this,  will be fodder for many

blog posts to come.  But until then,

I am very interested and eager

to get your feedback on this one, Luv-lies….

Put Your Feet Up.... It's Saturday !!!!

Put Your Feet Up…. It’s Saturday !!!!

Good Morning Luv-lies,

Happy Saturday…. hope that your week has been a productive and rewarding one.

I tell you, for me, this week has flewn by – like a flock of birds heading south for the winter!   It’s been a week of mostly goods and ……. not so goods  okay, so when it wasn’t good, it was reeeealllly bad!

Well, let’s get to it…..

The Week’s ‘Good’ Stuff…  {starting with the most important first :-)} :

My Little Ones.... Luv Them Babies

My Little Ones…. Luv Them Babies

Spent almost two hours video chatting with my three Grands…. affectionately referred to as ‘My Little Ones’.  I LUV them babies!!!

My six year old granddaughter (that’s her with the awesome make-up on the left) read me a story from one of her favorite books.  That was amazing!  While she was reading, I had a ‘light bulb moment’.  She was really reading! Not from rote, but, really reading with passion and emphasis.  WOW!!  She is growing up so fast….

Her oldest brother, my four year old grandson (he’s the one with the amazingly infectious smile on the far right side of the picture), also growing far too fast, sang me his rendition of  the ‘ABC’s’.  It took some coaxing – I had to sing it first… incorrectly.  He was in and out of a few small tantrums during the chat.  My silly rendition of the ‘ABC’s’ helped him out of it…  Besides, I he’s so proud of himself when he done.  And, of course, I am major scale proud of him!  I have a feeling that reading is on the very near horizon…. Yey!!!!!!

Then there is my youngest of the bunch (he’s the cutey in the middle).  He’s two years old but I swear that he’s been here before.  If he were just a little taller, one would think that he is the oldest.  He takes over! And, I have a sneaky suspicion that because he’s the youngest, his brother & sister let him take over –  but not for too much longer!  He likes to be the ‘holder of the phone’.  Because he talks in ‘two year old speak’ most of the sounds that I hear while he’s holding the phone is heavy breathing.  He’s soooo damned cute!

During most of this, my daughter was preparing dinner.  So I got to be the ‘virtual’ babysitter (hey! how did that happen? :-0).  But most importantly, I had a chance to visit with my family, who I miss soooo much!

More Goods!!!

My Weight Watchers Dashboard

 Seven months of Weight Watchers and commitment to moving my arse has rewarded me in several ways.

I’m down 0.4lbs {that’s 15lbs closer to goal}

Several garments that have been hanging in my closet – still with price tags and size tags (of a smaller size than I was seven months ago) – now fit –  with plenty of extra room – Whoa Hoo!!!

And most, inspirational and humbling….  at work, a few of the Ladies have been very complimentary (and forthcoming) with compliments on the amount of weight that I have lost and how ‘good you look, girl’.  Their compliments have been, among other things, encouraging and flattering.  They have been so inspired, that, we have decided to form a support group where we focus on healthy weight loss and healthy lifestyle.  They have appointed me as the mediator of the group.  Again, I am truly humbled and flattered.  There will be loads of posts about this group…. can’t wait to get started!

More Good Stuff !!!

I ran 36 miles this week!!!

I ran 36 miles this week!!!

This week, I’ve run a total of 36 miles!!! YEY ME !!!!!!!!!

                                           ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ohhhhh   Soooooo   Baddddd   Stufffffff !!!!
Im' Out of Control!!!
Im’ Out of Control!!!
I over ate !!!!!!  Yes! that was reallllly bad…. but not until Thursday.  And only on  Thursday !  I usually don’t touch my 49 Weekly Points that the WW program allows, but, not only did I eat my allotted points, I ate ALL of the 49 Weekly Points – In One Night!!! …..  whhhhhaaaaat!?  …… riiiiiiiight!
I did recover on Friday.
And the plan today is to STAY ON PROGRAM!!!
……… That’s my week, Luv-lies,
How was your week?
A Letter To All My Superwomen….
superwoman (1)
   Hello Luv-lies,
     How’s life and things been with you guys?  Hope that this week is seeing less of you =) .  I’ve been following my running plan in preparation for my upcoming  [did I say 1st] C25K   race.   And have finally broken this 4 months yes!! four f#%king months !!!!  plateau thingy that I’ve been stressing over!
     Can’t help but share my thoughts on an animated conversation that I overheard , this past week, by a group of women who had just completed their morning workout.
     The conversation was centered mostly around  ‘trying to  fit eighty hours into the allotted twenty-four hours that make up the usual day…’.    The question poised was ‘ with the challenges of family, religious, work and community obligations, when is there time for today’s woman to take care of herself…’?
     I wonder if any of these women know that according to The Bureau of Labor and Statistics, 66% of women with children 17 or younger work full- or part-time.  And that the research done by Linda Babcock, which she published in a study entitled, “Women Don’t Ask“, reported that full-time working women do over 33 hours of domestic chores a week…  With all of the hats that we wear seemingly all at one time, Soccer Mom, Domestic Diva, Paula Professional, BFF, etc., it’s no wonder that we feel like Super Women!
Because the cost of being a Super Women may be far too high – health, time, stress, personal and financial well-being – it goes without saying that finding that ever-so-elusive balance is imperative.
     Until we have found that balance, I would like to share this ‘letter of the month’ written by Marina Aleksintser  in Fitness Rx Magazine, that is a sort of an Ode to the Super Women::
“….so here is what i have learned to be true about every woman. j Although they find it easy to believe in other people’s talents and abilities, they often have difficulty believing in their own.  They are eager for knowledge and how-tos on how to master the juggling act of family, career, taking care of themselves.  But the truth is, at the core, we just want to know we’ve got what it takes and that we are superwomen, even when our capes are being dry-cleaned.  We are looking for connections, acknowledgements and assurance that we are on the right path and that we do have what it takes to reach all the personal and professional success – whatever that looks like for us…. [we] feel validated, inspired and empowered….”
After all, isn’t validation, inspiration and empowerment a pretty powerful trio of allies to have?
I’d luv to hear your thoughts,  Luv-lies?
Get Naked with It…..
Hey Luv-lies!,
I confess!
Despite all of the recent hoopla that this juice has generated……
I luv! luv! luv! fruit juice! In a smoothie, over ice, on a cold day, and especially when it’s oven hot outside!
So, needless to say, I was overjoyed when, during one of my many runs to the coffee shoppe, I discovered ‘Naked’ Juice. At 3 PointsPlus per serving (that’s per 8 ounces) , and described as a ‘Power Garden. Packed with Veggies. Downright Delicious.’, this tasty palate pleaser doesn’t fail to delite.
Want more juice smoothie options? Our own ‘Hungry Girl’ has done a great blog post... Check it out 🙂
Are you a fruit smoothie junkie? I’m dying to know your favorite…
